Rekindling passion and pushing my creative boundaries

7.20.24

I’ve been tattooing for over twenty years, and throughout this time, I’ve experienced a significant evolution in my style and approach.

For a long period, my work primarily consisted of smaller, somewhat generic tattoos or simple custom concepts. While I appreciated the trust my clients placed in me, I felt quite limited in what I was allowed to do, which became stifling over time.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I had a lot of time to reflect on my career and realized that I had lost my passion for tattooing. The repetitive nature of the projects I was taking on had drained my creative energy. I knew I needed to find a way to rekindle my love for the craft. This introspection led me to introduce a more refined consultation form to identify projects that resonated with me on a deeper level. This approach allowed me to branch out creatively and take on projects that I felt more in tune with.

However, this year has been particularly challenging due to my health issues. These difficulties made me think critically about what I truly wanted to achieve in my tattoo career. I began focusing on how I could use my technical skills to produce the best work possible. While I still love illustrative tattoos, I’ve had a lot of fun exploring more realistic and even surrealistic styles this year. I’ve also invested in new tools and technology to enhance my designs and produce high-quality stencils. This investment has enabled me to push the creative envelope with my projects.

As a result, I’m taking on fewer projects, but each one receives 1000% of my focus, effort, design time, and preparation. I understand that not everyone will be comfortable with such an intensive process, but this is the direction I am passionate about pursuing.

The tattoos I’m producing now are the best of my career. This success is a combination of my extensive experience, growing confidence, and the integration of new technology in my tattooing process. None of this would be possible without the trust and loyalty of my clients, for which I am deeply grateful.

I have been choosing quality over quantity, which has its sacrifices but I believe it is worth it.

Moving forward, I am committed to staying true to this path and making it the lasting legacy of my tattoo career. As I continue to evolve and push my creative boundaries, I hope to leave a mark that reflects the passion and dedication I have poured into this art form over the past two decades.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey. Your inquiries and trust mean the world to me, and I am excited to see where this next chapter takes us. Here’s to creating the best tattoos of my career and pushing the limits of what we can achieve together.
