For custom large scale work, sometimes the best option is free hand drawing the tattoo directly on. I will also incorporate free handing along with a stenciled design, to further augment the tattoo . I believe the design should compliment the body and work with the flow of the anatomy. It can also be useful for filling unusual shaped gaps in ongoing sleeve projects or a way to incorporate several existing tattoos with a fluid background.
